A
Nebraska company that uses South Dakota cattle received $6,000
from the Value-Added Ag Subfund to conduct a marketing and
feasibility study aimed at expanding its natural beef
business, Gov. Mike Rounds announced today, June 16.
Pioneer Beef Company of
Chadron, NE uses South Dakota cattle to provide a safe, high
quality product to its customers. “Safety, quality and
consistency are among the biggest concerns for consumers
today,” Gov. Rounds said. “Beef companies that can ensure
these issues are addressed and that consumer standards are met
certainly have a higher chance of success,” he added.
The Governor said that this
type of business provides another marketing opportunity for
South Dakota’s high quality cattle producers. “Without
question, South Dakota producers raise some of the highest
quality cattle around,” Gov. Rounds said. “We need to look at
all of our options when it comes to helping companies that use
our cattle,” he said.
The company is already in the
process of conducting a marketing and feasibility study to
determine its potential for continued growth. “At Pioneer Beef
Company, our focus is on quality, not quantity,” said Shan
O’Daniel, co-owner. “Our goal is to bring back the flavor of
the Old West,” he said.
O’Daniel said his company only
uses cattle that have been raised without added growth
hormones and antibiotics. “Our customers can rest assured that
our cattle can be source verified and have never been fed any
animal by-products,” he concluded.
