Gov. Mike
Rounds announced today, September 10, that Nisland will
receive $317,100 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
funds to upgrade its wastewater treatment system.
“The current lagoon treatment system is not in
compliance with required standards,” Gov. Rounds said. “The
community simply does not have the financial resources to do
the project without assistance,” he added.
“The people of Nisland have taken a pro-active
approach to getting this project completed,” the Governor
said. “They put together a master plan and broke the project
down into phases. It’s a very realistic approach to tackling
such a large project,” he noted. “Total project costs exceed
$425,000.
The Governor noted that all CDBG projects are
an important part of the state’s 2010 Initiative goal to
stabilize rural populations through community development.
“This is just one more step we can take to help serve the
people of our state,” he concluded.
