Gov. Mike Rounds announced today,
September 10, that Waubay will receive $515,000 in Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to make improvements to
its existing water and wastewater infrastructure.
“Waubay contracted with Banner
Associates to complete a water and wastewater facilities plan
and it was determined that improvements are needed to provide
collection and treatment capacity for the existing condition
and for areas of future growth,” the Governor said.
The community plans to replace
much of the outdated piping, valves and fire hydrants.
“Basically the community will give its water and wastewater
infrastructure a much needed facelift,” The Governor said.
Total project costs exceed $1.4
million. “This is a huge financial commitment for Waubay and I
commend city leaders for their dedication to this project,”
Gov. Rounds said.
The Governor noted that all
CDBG projects are an important part of the state’s 2010
Initiative goal to stabilize rural populations through
community development. “This is just one more step we can take
to help serve the people of our state,” he concluded.
