Gov. Mike
Rounds announced today, September 10, that the city of
Yankton, on behalf of Yankton Area Adjustment Training
Center., will receive $157,500 in Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG) funds to assist with major remodeling of the
Training Center.
“This center opened in 1975 and has been a
tremendous facility for developmentally disabled people in
southeast South Dakota,” Gov. Rounds said. “The last major
renovations took place more than 10 years ago and since that
time, the needs of the agency have greatly increased,” he
said. The renovations include providing additional classrooms,
restrooms and better work areas.
The Governor noted that during the past several
years, the focus of the Yankton Area Adjustment Training
Center has changed. “Today YAATC focuses more on providing
classroom training so employees are ready to join the
workforce. With that shift, much of the center’s physical
layout has become outdated,” he said.
Total project costs exceed $520,000. “This is a
huge financial commitment for Yankton and the Yankton Area
Adjustment Training Center and I commend them both for their
dedication to this project,” Gov. Rounds said.
The Governor noted that all CDBG projects are
an important part of the state’s 2010 Initiative goal to
stabilize rural populations through community development.
“This is just one more step we can take to help serve the
people of our state,” he concluded.
